40 days till VMD | CSCC | Search & Rescue K9 Handler

I grew up doing just about everything active- skiing, snowboarding, biking, hiking, kayaking, gymnastics and playing softball.

In the 7th grade I picked up Field Hockey and everything changed. It turned out I was pretty good at it and I joined a competitive club team in addition to playing for my high school. In my sophomore year of high school, I was recruited by  The Ohio State University on an athletic scholarship.  Through the rest of high school and all through college I worked with sport performance personal trainers and our team trainers to learn how proper form and function could lead to movement efficiency, speed, and strength during competition .

I got into vet school at University of Pennsylvania, and during my interview was informed about the PennVet Working Dog Center. Canine sports medicine was new to me but sounded like the perfect combo of my love for active dogs and a background in competitive athletics.  While at PennVet, I spent the summer participating in research at the Working Dog Center on canine detection of Hemangiosarcoma. I  externed with Texas A&M Veterinary Emergency Team as well as Cornell University Sports Medicine, University of Tennessee Sports Medicine, and Florida Veterinary Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

In my last year of college, I adopted Luther and then Foxy and we started our adventures. We started hiking, biking, playing frisbee, agility classes, dock diving, sheep herding and diving into dog training.

Kristina and I met in vet school teaching a CGC class and realized we had all the same passions, and were even from the same area. She was the one who introduced me to our Search and Rescue team, where Fox and I worked to certify as a deployable team. It only took Kristina a few conversations to convince me to officially start Performance Unleashed.
